FOSDEM 2023 – Finally in person
While following FOSDEM online for 2 years gets you all the information on FOSS you might need, we can all agree it’s not the same experience.
Here is a question for the philosophers among you: “If you’re not queuing half an hour in the rain for a waffle were you part of FOSDEM?”
Jokes aside, while there is no need to explain that the talks and presentation are high quality pieces of work produced by passionate and knowledgeable people (You can check them online on the FOSDEM website), the possibility of meeting and talking to them AFK is a great plus.
Also, coming home with a laptop half a kilogram heavier from the stickers you took is an added benefit.
While in Belgium, we took the opportunity to attend Configuration Management camp as well.
I have to be honest, this one is a little less chaotic.
As the name itself suggest on CfgMgmtCamp you’ll learn more about configuration management tools and techniques.
Similarly structured as FOSDEM, there are tracks to suite what interests you the most and also jumping from track to track is also doable.
If you’re not sure what we’re talking about check out our blog post from the first FOSDEM or try to win Fosdemgeddon, it’s up to you.
I will not go in depth about the presentations themselves, as each of us followed different tracks this year so it wouldn’t make much sense. Also you can check them out yourself.
One of the things we love about this conferences, is that you come home excited and full of new ideas for future projects and products. This year was no different, so stay tuned and consider subscribing to our newsletter for more information about that.
A big shout-out to the organizers and volunteers that made these conferences possible. All we can say is, keep up the good work.
P.S. you cannot have a bad beer in Belgium.
Cheers and hope to see you at FOSDEM 2024.
